Introduction
Imagine yourself as a killer whale. You are going to the surface to take a breath. As you are taking a breath as you see a large stream of thick black oil heading your way.You go back under water only to find other animals dying because of this. Under this quetion we will give examples of water pollution.
Boating pollution
Whenever someone takes their boat onto the water for a ride,It is creating pollution that can be very harmful to the sea life. Boating pollution is the pollution that comes from the boats engines when it's running and it pollutes the water, killing the animals.
Cars
Cars pollute the ocean alot. Whenever a car get driven, you may have noticed alot of smoke that is coming out from the back of the car. This smoke dosen't go directly into the ocean. It ends up being up in acid rain. Acid rain is pollution mixed with regular rain, and when acid rain gets into the ocean, it pollutes the waters and kills many fish over a period of time. Cars are a big pollution source. If pollution from cars cannot be stopped or at least cut down, then pretty soon the amount of fish and other creatures in the ocean will decrease.
Human waste
Human waste is from our bodies. It goes through sewerage pipes and can be pumped out into the ocean without being cleaned up first. This is really bad for our oceans and the marine life in them. Another cause of pollution is when sewage pipes share their space with storm water drains.Rainfall causes the sewage pipes to overflow and the sewage waste mixes with the storm water drain, which flows into another water source such as a lake or river.
Oil
Oil spills are enormous bits of oil that float on the surface of the sea. They can wash up on beaches. Spills are caused by accidents and also by the machines that drill out oil. Oil has a deadly affect on plankton, seaweed and shell fish. Oceans are polluted by oil on a daily basis from oil spillsOil spills make up 12% of the oil that enters the ocean the rest come from shipping, and dumping, drains and travelling.Oil can’t dissolve in water so it forms a thick slude in the ocean.
Whats an oil spill?
Oil spills happen when people make mistakes or are careless and cause oil to leak oil into the ocean when it is being transported or lifted out of the sea bed. There are a few more ways an oil spill can occur. Equipment breaking down may cause an oil spill. If the equipment breaks down, the tanker may get stuck on shallow land. When they start to drive the tanker again, they can put a hole in the tanker causing it to leak oil.Oil can also be spilt on purpose. When countries are at war, one country may decide to dump gallons of oil into the other country’s oceans. Terrorists may cause an oil spill because they will dump oil into a country’s ocean. Many terrorists will do this because they are trying to get the country’s attention, or they are trying to make a point to a country. Illegal dumpers are people that will dump crude oil into the oceans because they do not want to spend money on decomposing their waste oil. Because they won’t spend money on breaking up the oil (decomposing it) they will dump oil into the oceans, which is illegal.Natural disasters (like hurricanes) may cause an oil spill, too. If a hurricane was a couple of miles away, the winds from the hurricane could cause the oil tanker to flip over, pouring oil out.

What effects do oil spills have on animals?
.Oil spills may cause the death of an animal by entering the animal’s organs. The animal will then be poisoned by the oil. Oil also can kill an animal by blinding it. The animal will not be able to see and be aware of their predators. If they are not aware of other animals, they may be eaten.
Small organisms
Many people don’t realise all the animals in the ocean that oil spills affect. Plankton, larval fish and species that live on the bottom of the ocean are strongly affected. Even seaweed, clams, oysters, and mussels can be affected by oil spills. Only off- shore accidents can really cause the death of these small living creatures because this is mainly the home for these small organisms. When hundreds of plankton die because of oil, that species of animal may become extinct. Then, fish won’t be able to eat the plankton, so they will become extinct. A killer whale could then become extinct because it can’t eat the fish.
Grey water
Grey waste water contains many things which can be very harmful to sea life. Your `little bit of soapy’ water when added to many other people’s little bit adds up to a big amount. Cleaning detergents disinfects degreasers all cause harm to marine animals through poisoning, burning and irritating their sensitive bodies.
